From house parties to pajama nights to movie marathons and jam sessions the living room is often the most preferred place for all your guests and family members. How you arrange the furniture in your living room makes a lot of difference to how comfortable people feel hanging out there. Here are some simple Furniture arrangement tips for living room.

  1. Focus on the seating arrangements

The seating arrangement of the furniture grouping in your living room should be centered together so that people do not have to sit far away from each other. Place the seating arrangement in such a way that people can comfortably sit together and talk. The natural centerpiece of the room such as a large window or the fireplace or the T.V can be the zone around which furniture can be grouped. This creates a focus for the space and enables better engagement.

2. Use the Straight on Approach

The sofa should be placed across the focal point with all the other furniture pieces grouped in the same direction. This way everybody can have a good view of the centerpiece of the room. When you have extra guests at home then put ottomans and stools around the centerpiece at various corners so that a larger group can congregate together comfortably.

3. Keep plenty of passageway

Spaces large enough for people to comfortably pass through should be kept between furniture pieces. There should be enough space between the furniture for people to weave in and out and not be crushed in the process. The corners of the room can be blocked with prettily decorated storage bins or ottomans if you have children’s toys or other stuff you don’t want your guests to notice.

4. Face to Face arrangements

If you are a fan of classic furniture arrangements then you can try picking the face to face stance. The sofa and a couple of chairs can comfortably face each other. The focal point in this case can be at one end of the room. This kind of arrangement works well when your living room is primarily used for activities like reading, working on laptop or simply relaxing while listening to music.

5. Dynamic Diagonals

Modern interior designing principals say that the use of dynamic diagonals allow the creation of excitement and joy into the space. To create this look place furniture so that its lines are parallel to the wall. This also builds a greater sense of unity into the space. Make sure that the furniture lines are at least 3-4 feet away from each other.

Utilize unusual corners

Though this is not directly about furniture, the unused leftover spaces in your living room can make the whole arrangement look awkward. Build in shelves, knick knack racks and even consoles into those spaces so that the room looks filled in and comfy. However the heights of such arrangements should be chosen properly so that the guests sitting in the living room do not feel claustrophobic.

By implementing these simple tips you can make your living room look pretty and comfortable without much effort.
