Light Fixtures Can Impact Home Décor, Find Out How!

People spend fabulous amounts of money on décor and furnishings and this is understandable. Everyone wants their home to look and feel beautiful. However, if you look closely, the effect is marred, simply because they spoil everything by fixing the garden variety of bare fluorescent fixtures or bare bulbs on their walls to light up the interiors.

 Bare Lighting Fixtures

bulbs

Bare bulbs and tubes are a no-no if you want your interiors to look their best. For one, the light is rather harsh and directional, throwing up sharp shadows and contrasts. It is unflattering to objects and to people. Bare lights can also shine in your eyes and cause eye strain.

Diffused Lighting Fixtures

diffuse

It is far better to use milky diffuser type lighting fixtures that will give a nice, soft glow with even lighting that bathes furniture and people with warmth. You need not restrict yourself to just one powerful lighting fixture. It is better to use low power bulbs, CFL or LED’s spread across the room for an even more diffuse and pleasant ambiance. This type of lighting is fine if you are simply sitting and watching TV or talking with friends. However, there are times when you might want to read or do a bit of work. You might have a beautiful framed poster or painting you might want to highlight. In such cases pick small halogen lamps that you can switch on when needed. Now your room has the ideal mix of spot lights and diffuse lighting and your interior will look as well as feel beautiful. Another option is indirect lighting for that soft, muted look, especially suited for bedrooms. The right lighting fixtures look beautiful on walls and bring out the best in furniture, furnishings and people. Your home will feel like home.

Color temperature

tempThis is another factor most home owners are quite familiar with and must know when they decorate their interiors or give their house a makeover. The garden variety of fluorescent tubes and CFL has a rather cool blue-green light output in the 6500 degree Kelvin range. This may be perfect for offices and workplaces but does not promote a feeling of warmth and intimacy. You could select fluorescent tubes with “natural white” color temperature of 5000 deg. K or the warmer golden lights for that feeling of warmth in your interiors. Halogen lamps and incandescent bulbs have color temperature in the range of 3000 to 3500 deg. K, which is why most people prefer these for lighting up interiors. These can consume high amounts of energy. LED lights are the cost effective, sustainable solution. You can easily get LED fixtures complete with diffusers or fixtures that work as down lighters and save on energy costs while having the right color temperature. LED’s are available in color temperatures ranging from 4500 deg. K to 6000 deg K. and are the future of lighting, though they may be expensive.

It does pay to invest in lighting. When you plan your interiors, make suitable provisions for lighting, even if it involves extra outlay. Including indirect lighting, soft diffuse lighting and spot lighting will add interest and character to your room’s interiors.
